Alisha Sweyd, LMFT

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, my focus has been in working with trauma, adolescents, and family dynamics. I also have extensive experience working with anxiety, depression, and grief and loss. One of my primary areas of interest is with first responders, military, and their loved ones. My training has been varied over the years, from adults with anxiety to behavioral issues in children to communication between couples.
I believe that therapy is most effective when tailored to the specific experiences of the client. My approach focuses on exploring symptoms as helpful tools to increase personal awareness. Through therapy, clients are able to learn more about their own experiences in a safe and non-judgmental environment. It is in this environment that clients can find meaning with their experiences in order to reach their fullest potential. For those who believe, I also incorporate Christian spiritual practices and understanding in sessions.
When I am not supporting clients, I truly enjoy spending time with my family and our dogs. Other hobbies include reading, catching up with friends at different coffee shops, volunteering at our church, and watching the waves along the Monterey Coast.

My Unique Style

I make sure to form a personal link with my clients to establish a relationship that is real, honest, caring, and helpful. Through empathy and a deep mutual understanding, I am able to bear witness to the experiences of my clients in a way that provides insight and allows for growth in the chaos of life.
During my time as a counselor, my clients notice themselves becoming more anchored in their own experience, more deeply connected to their true self, more aware of the specific habits and patterns that get in their way. In our sessions, you will begin to build confidence and strength in your capacity to move through life with clarity and care. You will develop an inspiring sense that you are experiencing your life well; that you carry within you an abiding capacity to truly, sincerely honor yourself, others, and our world.
For those who believe, I also incorporate Christian spiritual practices and understanding throughout our sessions. I believe that faith plays an important role in the healing process because of the way our walk with Jesus impacts how we experience life. I am humbled to witness how God draws individuals and families closer, providing healing for those with deep pain and trauma. Through prayer and biblical guidance, many clients can find the peace and hope they have been missing. I enjoy supporting a client's journey toward a deeper and more life-giving relationship with Jesus!

A kind gesture can reach a wound that only compassion can heal.

My Approach

No client or situation is the same, and thus counseling requires individual focus. My goal is to collaborate with my clients to create solutions for their unique set of circumstances. This allows for the client to remain their own self-expert throughout the counseling process.

Even when counseling individuals, I help them strengthen close relationships with loved ones. It is my belief that a strong family and support system can be the most important factor for long-term success.

I often enjoy using creative interventions in counseling to support my clients with gaining insight and awareness. Particularly with children and adolescents, I find sand tray and art, in tandem with mindfulness, create a safe space for clients to engage in self-exploration.

My stance is that everyone has both a set of weaknesses and a set of strengths. As a counseling professional, I support clients in utilizing their own personal strengths to overcome their obstacles in creative ways.

Our spiritual beliefs plays a significant role in how we experience life. I am humbled to witness how God draws clients closer through counseling as He provides healing for those with deep pain and trauma. I enjoy supporting a client's journey toward a deeper and more life-giving relationship with God!

Compassion is a primary focus in my counseling approach. I believe compassion and empathy are primary agents of change. By providing clients with genuine compassion in an empathetic setting, change can be welcomed like an old friend.
